Sophie brings warm, inclusive, and uplifting group singing sessions into care homes across Bristol and the surrounding areas. Through Stand Out Performing Arts, she creates a relaxed, high-end environment where residents can sing along, reminisce, smile, and simply enjoy being together.

There is no pressure to perform and no need to know all of the words. This isn’t a formal choir - it is a therapeutic musical space where every resident is welcome. We love to see family members join in if they feel like it; it is a beautiful opportunity for families and residents to share in the joy of music and those lovely, shared moments in a calm and supportive setting.

Care Home Choir by Stand Out Performing Arts — therapeutic group singing sessions for dementia and Alzheimer's residents in Bristol and Reading

For people living with dementia or Alzheimer’s, music can offer a meaningful route to connection. Familiar songs may evoke emotions and memories, encourage singing or gentle movement, and provide a shared experience even when verbal communication has become more difficult.

Research suggests that music can support mood, social engagement and communication, and may help to reduce agitation for some people living with dementia. Through Care Home Choir sessions in Bristol, group singing also creates an opportunity for residents to feel included, expressive and part of something together. Music is not a medical treatment, but it can be a powerful and valuable part of a person-centred care environment.

Sophie has a personal connection to this work through family members affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia. Through Stand Out Performing Arts, she brings inclusive music and singing sessions to care homes across Bristol and the surrounding areas. No matter where her career in the performing arts has taken her, she has always made time for care-home music sessions because of how deeply this work matters to her. For Sophie, it is a privilege to give something back through the power of music.

Why Music Matters — the benefits of music for dementia and Alzheimer's residents in care homes across Bristol and Reading

Sophie is based in Bristol and regularly leads Care Home Choir sessions in multiple Care UK homes across both Bristol and Reading. She has seen first-hand the joy, confidence, and sense of community that music can bring week after week. Each one-hour session is warm, relaxed, and led by the residents in the room. There are no complicated harmonies, no expectation to perform, and no pressure to join in in any particular way - simply familiar songs, shared memories, and the chance to enjoy being together.

Music is chosen thoughtfully from the 1930s through to the present day and, wherever possible, tailored around residents’ ages, memories, and musical preferences. From timeless classics, musical theatre favourites, and well-loved songs by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Audrey Hepburn, Elvis Presley, and The Beach Boys, to songs that encourage gentle clapping, toe-tapping, or movement, every session is designed to be accessible, engaging, and inclusive for residents of all confidence and ability levels. Available weekly or fortnightly, Care Home Choir offers a warm, professional, and dependable activity for care homes in Bristol, Reading, and the surrounding areas.
